Green Mobility Hubs

March 2024 update - consultation results

Thank you to everyone who took the time to share their views in our consultations on bringing Green Mobility Hubs to the Somers Town area. We have now decided to go ahead with our proposals. You can read the decision report and our feedback to the consultation responses.

We're going to introduce 5 Green Mobility Hubs in Somers Town.

  1. Goldington Crescent
  2. Cranleigh Street
  3. Charrington Street
  4. Doric Way
  5. Chalton Street

These hubs will be places with a mix of environmentally sustainable transport options all in one single, easily recognisable location. Plus more planting, trees, seating, and signs to help with finding your way around.

December 2023 update - consultation open Doric Way and Chalton Street

Consultation now open. We are now consulting on Phase2 of the Green Mobility Hubs proposed in Somers Town. Find out more and share your views. The consultation is open until the 21 January 2024.

September 2023 update -

Consultation closed. Phase 1 of the Green Mobility Hubs proposed in Somers Town - awaiting decision.

Aim

The Council has received funding to make Somers Town more resilient to the effects of climate change, through the Future Neighbourhoods fund.

As part of this, we are aiming to deliver 5 or 6 “Green Mobility Hubs” that combine shared, environmentally sustainable methods of travel, such as bike and e-scooter hire, with extra features such as greenery, pedestrian directions and parklets.

What’s happening?

  • We are looking to create Camden’s first “Green Mobility Hubs” combining a mix of shared mobility options such as Santander Cycle and Dockless Bike/e-scooter hire points, general cycle parking, and car clubs, with the provision of electric vehicle charging, at five or six key sites in Somers Town.
  • At the same time, we will use the opportunity of delivering these hubs to help improve the way the streets look. This might include more planting and trees, green roofs or parklets and creating new places to stop, sit and rest in and around the mobility hubs.
  • We are seeking to develop a support package for local people and businesses, which will encourage residents to choose shared ways of traveling such as hire bikes, hire e-scooters or car clubs. This would reduce the number of residents using their own vehicles and and instead support them to travel by healthy and sustainable ways, this could involve incentives to give up their cars like access to a car club membership.

What might a Green Mobility Hub look like?

At the moment, the design of mobility hubs is under consideration, however, the below visuals provide an artists impression of what we think the mobility hubs could look like.

How can I get involved?

We have come up with some potential locations for where Mobility Hubs might go in Somers Town. These potential sites have been chosen due to availability of space, proportion of underused resident permit parking bays, and wanting to provide a Green Mobility Hub.

Delivery Schedule

Consultation will take place in phase starting this summer (2023).
